Fr. Claudio took us to visit some of the PIME Catholic chapels of the Lahu and Akha around Ban Thoet Thai (the PIME center which belongs to the Fang parish). Some of them are quite simple, even rudimentary, as you can see in these pictures.
We spent the night in the Ban Thoet Thai house so that we would be closer to the border crossing of Mae Sai. In order to get to the house, though, we had to take this suspension bridge across the quickly flowing river below. I’m so glad they put those fences along the side – I’m guessing several people must have fallen in because that bridge sure SWAYS when you walk across it without the right rhythm!
Anyway, our plan is to leave first thing tomorrow morning… this should be interesting!
